Free up memory on Hema HX-2 16GB devices for new updates

As map update packages increase in size due to more data being included, the need to free up space temporarily to complete the download may arise for HX-2 16GB devices.

DO NOT ATTEMPT UPDATES UNLESS YOU HAVE A STRONG WIFI CONNECTION.

If you are attempting to complete new updates from the Updates screen on your Hema HX-2 and are seeing a recurring storage alert, you may need to temporarily remove downloaded 4WD Maps and re-install once complete.

NOTE - FOR THIS UPDATE PROCESS PLEASE DO NOT FACTORY RESET YOUR HX-2 UNIT UNLESS ADVISED BY HEMA TECH SUPPORT.

How to tell if you have a 16GB HX-2 device:

If the serial number on the back of your device ends in number .....11059 or lower, you have a 16GB device.

If the number ends in .....11060 or higher, you have a 32GB device and the following process should not need to be applied.

1. Connect your device to a strong Wifi connection (home or office Wifi is preferred as mobile based internet like Starlink or Mobile Hotspot can be unreliable at times).

2. Go to Updates from the Home screen and attempt to complete any required updates:



3. If you see a Storage alert recommending that you clear maps, this is safe to do so - please tap Continue and see if this allows the new map package to download:

This usually should free up enough space to allow the new map package to download:

However, if the new maps do not download or you see the Storage alert again, you may need to try the following proceedure:

UNINSTALL 4WD MAP DOWNLOADS TEMPORARILY

1. Close Updates by tapping the orange H in the top left and open 4WD Maps from the Home screen:



2. Tap in the lower left corner to open Map List:



3. Tap on the 3 lines to open the Map List options:



4. Tap on Show Folders:

5. Find Australia/Hema4WD-2022 and tap on the info icon to the right of this heading:



The size cached should show approx 2.1GB - tap on Delete Maps:



Note - this is removing the downloaded maps but will not affect user logins or user data such as tracks/points.

6. Once done, close any open menus, then tap the top left corner Main Menu then Quit App:



7. Head back into Updates and tap on Maps 2026.Q2 to start the map download:

8. Once the map has completed downloading and installing, head back to 4WD Maps and tap on Map List again (lower left corner):



9. Tap on My Online Maps, then expand 4WD > Packages > Hema 4WD Maps 2022:



10. Tap on Hema 4WD Maps 2022 to re-download the maps package for 4WD Maps:
