What do the Track Difficulty icons mean in the Explorer map?

Within the Hema Explorer map, at higher zoom levels, you may see icons (E, M, D or XX) on some of the tracks.

These icons are designed to show the general difficulty of a track.

As shown above (taken from the legend for the Hema Explorer map), these difficulty levels should be taken as a general guide only, as drivers' skill levels vary widely.
